Hearing Loss and Dementia? Really?
Roberta Singer
Hearing loss and its relationship to dementia is currently a commonly discussed topic. The general view is that they are correlated but there is no clear evidence of a cause and effect relationship. There is clear evidence though that older individuals with hearing loss do have decreased grey matter in the brain compared to those of the same age with normal hearing. Hearing aids may be the best hope for providing hearing assistance and reducing the risk of demen†ia.
